I got a late start rowing but the difference between tonight and other nights is that I'm coming off two full days of rest and I ate a few veggies with dinner tonight. And I mean it really was only a few veggies... a spinach salad with strawberries and fresh bacon tossed in, along with maybe six of La's yummy ribs.
I rowed and rowed and rowed for 1:45:14.1, for a total of 21,676m. A rowing half-marathon is 21,097m.
I walked out of my family room, into the garage, and rowed a half-marathon.
Friday afternoon, my macbook pro froze and I had to restart again. When it booted up, all of my shortcuts and preferences had been whacked. The way they set things up, there's a /data drive with all our junk on it and my user is stored there. All the links to all my files, my user, all that nonsense had been wiped out and everything is now pointing to the main drive, which isn't supposed to happen.
So now it's like I've got two of the same user on this machine, sort of. The thing is whacked, goofy, odd, possessed, not right in the head, heeeeere's johnny goofy.
I tried to get my email this morning and the office setup assistant fired up. Man that's not good either.
I filed a bunch of tickets, went down to deskside, gave them my sob story and told them dudes, send this to apple and make it right. In the meantime, I'll backup all my shizz and set me up with a pc laptop with all the bells and whistles. Gang, I'm switching back... at least for a little while. A little bit of my soul died when I made the switch the first time. That black spot on my soul is about to get a little bit bigger.
Luc Besson collection. Nikita, Atlantis, Subway, Le Dernier Combat (A lot of people reckon this guy is more ‘style over substance’ but I like his stuff.)
Harry potter and the prisoner of Azkaban (Never seen a HP movie before so why not.)
Pret a Porter (The money spent on ‘talent’ must have given the Producer heartburn.)
Excalibur (I thought this was a terribly sexy movie when I was a kid. Guy’s in decked out in full suits of armour hip deep in lakes fighting each other, and shagging princesses. (Jean Luc Picard makes an appearance))
Once upon a time in Mexico (Rob Rodriguez is a bit of a hero of mine.)
Who killed the electric car (Nothing like a good doco.)
The Piano (One of my fav’s of all time.)
Video two in the series...
So my iPhone lately hasn't really been holding a charge at all. I've got the apple care thing and I finally called in today about it. They made an appointment for me to talk to an apple genius at 5pm today. I suspect that even with apple care that I'll have to probably pay for the lousy battery replacement. Suckage. Seems like everytime I pull it out of my bag or out of my pocket the darned thing is dead. I was in a meeting today and I was jealous of everyone else's functioning blackberries. Stupid lousy iphone.
Four days straight rowing, 50,021m total, average of 12,505m per row. Averaging 2:22.9/500m split. First two days I had some cramping in my legs after rowing. I fixed that by drinking water beforehand and stopping at the 30 minute mark for a water break, also began taking vitamins twice a day.
I've got some blisters on my hands and I think the cause is that I'm wearing my weightlifting gloves. I'm probably better off without them. The worst side-effect is there's chaffing in the very top part of my butt crack. I can feel that part rubbing just a tiny bit during the stroke. A tiny little rub a gazillion times over four days means I've got a problem back there in the caboose.
This is all very good but it means that "for fun" I'll probably have a big long row this weekend, maybe Friday night. Why? I don't know. It's just what Art does sometimes.
I'm working with Motorola to help promote widget development on their new WebUI platform. If you are a web and/or mobile developer, there's a great opportunity to exhibit with Motorola at CTIA IT&E in SF. You don't need to know how to develop for mobile. As long as you know how to develop for the web, you can create a mobile widget, using Motorola's WebUI technology preview tools. Development is quick and easy...
Given the recent announcements around MOTODEV Studio supporting widgets and WebUI, the MOTODEV Ecosystem Marketing team is looking for three (3) unique widget/WebUI applications to promote at the upcoming CTIA IT & Entertainment show in San Francisco, CA September 10-12, 2008.
First, tell MOTODEV your idea for your widget/WebUI application by no later than close of business (Pacific time) on Monday, Aug 18, 2008.
Use your imagination! Those applications that are unique (i.e. no clocks, weather forecasts, etc.), interesting (e.g. content, etc.), highlight device capabilities (e.g. integration of contacts, calendar events, etc.), etc. will have the most visibility and best chances of being selected.
Submit an idea by sending a quick description of it to: widgetchallenge@motorola.com. Make sure to include all of the appropriate contact information including:
You may and are encouraged to submit more than one idea!
- your name
- your company name
- your telephone number
- etc.
Between Tuesday, Aug 19 and Thursday Aug 21, MOTODEV will select the top three (3) ideas. MOTODEV may select more but are looking for a minimum of 3 ideas.
If selected and in exchange for your efforts, you and/or your organization will receive the following:
- Your widget/WebUI application featured in the MOTODEV Studio emulator on a dedicated pod in the MOTODEV booth at CTIA IT & Entertainment 2008 in San Francisco
- Your company logo featured as part of the pod and/or on additional signage associated w/ the pod
- The ability to have a single piece of collateral available for distribution at the pod & piece and content subject to MOTODEV approval
- The ability to help staff the pod at CTIA and explain how development was completed. (Note: All travel and related travel expenses to get to the event are the responsibility of the selected participants.)
- Two (2) FULL conference passes to CTIA IT&E; a combined value of approximately $1000.00!
Aside from CTIA, there is high probability that the application and associated information will be highlighted at additional future events and in promotional vehicles.
In order to participate in this promotion, you must be able to develop and deliver to MOTODEV the widget/WebUI application as defined in your idea by no later than close of business Tuesday, Sept 2, 2008. This will give MOTODEV time to evaluate, provide feedback and resolve any outstanding issues. If issues remain, after Thursday Sept 4, 2008, MOTODEV retains the right to pull the application from the promotion and choose not to deliver on any or all of the promotion benefits.
ALL widget/WebUI applications must be developed within MOTODEV Studio and executable using its associated emulator. If selected, arrangements will be made w/ MOTODEV developer technical support to provide priority response at no-cost to reasonable developer identified issues. NOTE: MOTODEV developer technical support is not a substitute for in-house development expertise. You must own the rights and/or have the proper agreements in place with any 3rd-party content that might be demonstrated in your application. You must be able to provide proof of ownership and/or the relationship(s) between your company and the party(ies).
While you will always own the application and any associated content, you give MOTODEV a perpetual and royalty-free license to demonstrate and/or promote the application (with appropriate developer credit) as required. Developers submitting ideas and/or applications must be MOTODEV members in good standing. Joining the program is FREE. For more information and to join the program, click here.
Think about what widget/WebUI applications you can easily create w/ MOTODEV Studio NOW, and join Motorola at CTIA IT&E!
I was listening to a This American Life podcast last night while rowing. They're perfect because they're interesting and usually 59 minutes long. Anyway, this one story was about this guy who had this nasty condition that caused him to do all kinds of crazy shit while he slept. Which was downright hilarious at times.
This caused me to laugh pretty hard a few times which is something I'd never done while rowing. Two things almost happened to me while laughing. First, I almost crapped myself. Laughing and the physics of rowing do not mix. When you think of what happens physically when you laugh then consider what happens physically when you row, you may crap yourself just thinking about it, so be careful.
Secondly, I almost fell off the damned thing sideways. While laughing and trying not to crap myself I'd list dangerously to my right.
So really there's only two really bad things that can happen to me while rowing in the garage. I could either crap myself laughing or have a full-on heart attack. Either way I'll be at home so La can call me an ambulance.
